What is a filler?
Filler is a gel like substance made of "hyaluronic acid" , which is a part of the connective tissue in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is the one which is responsible for the fullness, suppleness and flexibility of the skin, which is a part of youthful skin. As we age, the hyaluronic acid content in our skin goes on diminishing, leading to wrinkles, deep lines, furrows, laugh lines, thin lips, etc. A filler is therefore used to virtually "fill " the lines, grooves and furrows, thus restoring back the youthful appearance.
What are the uses of a filler?
Fillers can be used to fill in the deep lines and wrinkles. Some commonly used indications are are -
-Wrinkles and folds-
Nose to mouth lines (nasolabial folds)
Smoker’s lines (perioral lines)
Smile lines
Crow’s feet (periorbital lines)
Worry lines (glabellar lines)
Frown lines (forehead lines)
-Lip treatments-
Fuller lips (lip augmentation)
Defined lip line (vermillion border)
Happier mouth corners (oral commissures)
-Deep skin hydration
-Treatment of decolletage and neck
-Hand treatments
-Acne scar treatments
How is a filler procedure done?
The area to be treated is anaesthetised using a anesthesia cream. The filler is injected using a small, fine needle similar to an insulin syringe into your skin to fill in the wrinkle or fold or plump the lip. The procedure takes about 30 minutes ( 1 hour for the topical anaesthesia to act).
A follow up is recommended after 2 weeks and a "touch up " may be done , if required.
How will I feel post treatment?
There may be mild redness, swelling, bruising, discomfort or tenderness at the site of injection immediately after a filler. This typically lasts for a few hours to few days. Allergic reactions are rare. Cold ice packs are helpful in reducing the above symptoms. However, you can easily resume your day to day activities without any difficulty.
How soon can I see the results?
Almost immediately!
- natural looking appearance
- reduction in the wrinkles and furrows
- Better hydration of the skin , skin feels more supple
How long do the results last?
Fillers are biodegradable, which means they will naturally disappear in the body. A follow-up treatment is usually needed after 6 to 12 months depending on individual factors and area treated.
Can I combine fillers with other treatments?
Yes. Fillers can be combined wit other modalities like Botox and chemical peels. We will assess your requirements and devise a good treatment plan for achieving the best possible and yet a natural appearance.
